Gethin Jones has landed a new job this summer as his BBC show Morning Live takes a break. He will serve as the Chef de Mission for the Welsh team at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Chef de Mission role
Jones announced the role, for which he has been preparing for over a year. He undertook a Master's degree in Sports Directorship last year alongside his presenting. His responsibilities include leading team operations, logistics, media relations, and maintaining morale.
"I can’t even tell you what an honour and privilege it is to be leading the team, as Chef de Mission, here in Glasgow," he said. "It’s been amazing, the last 12 to 18 months, with all the team, behind the team, just making sure all the prep, the logistics, are done. To make our athletes have the best opportunity to succeed over the next few weeks here in Glasgow."
Morning Live break
Jones wrapped up on Morning Live a couple of weeks back and posted on social media to thank fans. "Thank you for watching @bbcmorninglive! There’s not a day goes by where I’m not amazed by the level of interaction... It’s a real pleasure to work with the team in the pic. Kind humans who are also extremely talented. Live telly is not easy! So as we sign off for the summer… and I put my sports hat on for @glasgow_2026, I think of a phrase I’ve heard a lot recently amongst the athletes competing for @team_wales. 'Pressure is a privilege.'"
BBC guidelines reminder
It comes after Jones was reminded of the BBC's editorial guidelines after he broke broadcasting rules while on air. He is a longstanding ambassador for Clogau and has appeared in promotional campaigns, but he was seen wearing Clogau watches while hosting Morning Live, breaching guidelines that presenters "must not appear on-air wearing clothing or using products or services which they have been contracted to promote."
BBC Studios told The Mirror: "We have clear guidelines around presenters' commercial activities while working with the BBC, and Gethin has been reminded of these guidelines."
