Cristiano Ronaldo's fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, blurred the line between bridal chic and haute couture at the 2026 Met Gala. The 32-year-old bride-to-be appeared to be walking down the aisle as she attended the event in a satin blue dress with a delicate floral veil cascading over her head.
While at first glance it seemed Rodriguez was offering a glimpse at her future wedding, her outfit was actually inspired by her Catholic faith. The dress, designed by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, was paired with diamond earrings from Chopard, a pearl and diamond rosary, and the $3 million, 30-carat engagement ring Ronaldo proposed with last year.
Personal Touches and Meaning
On Instagram, Rodriguez revealed the special meaning behind her dress and the personal touches that paid tribute to her family. 'This look is inspired by my devotion to the Virgin of Fátima. The softness of the figure and the light blue tones that define her image became the foundation of the piece, translating spirituality into couture,' she explained.
'It features Ludovic’s signature eyelets and lacing, hand-painted to blend into the pale blue of the garment. The cups are made entirely from French blue lace, woven on traditional Leavers looms in Calais-Caudry, giving the fabric a fluid, almost weightless quality.'
A sheer veil completes the look, finished with hand-embroidered lace flowers. Hidden inside the dress, placed next to her heart, two phrases are hand-embroidered in Spanish: 'Donde ella está, el alma encuentra refugio' and 'Y líbranos del mal amén.' These words act as a private prayer, carried within the piece.
The Rosary as a Relic
'The look is accompanied by a custom rosary, conceived as both jewel and relic. Crafted in white gold and set with diamonds and pearls, it is engraved with the names of my family members—transforming it into an intimate object of devotion. The rosary extends the narrative of the look, where personal faith and exceptional craftsmanship meet.'
In the context of 'Fashion is Art,' the look reflects how faith, like art, can be expressed through form, detail, and emotion.
The 2026 Met Gala Theme and Co-Chairs
The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, also known as the Met Gala, falls on the first Monday in May every year. The theme of this year's event is 'Costume Art,' while the dress code is 'Fashion Is Art.' The dress code calls on A-list attendees to explore how designers use the human body as a blank canvas.
Leading the charge is a powerhouse trio of co-chairs: Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams, joining forces with Vogue's global editorial director Anna Wintour to oversee fashion's biggest night. It is the first time tennis superstar Williams has co-chaired the gala. Kidman previously co-chaired in 2003 and 2005, and Beyoncé was an honorary chair in 2013.
Exhibition and Sponsors
The New York City museum will pair historical and contemporary garments from the Costume Institute for the exhibition, loosely divided into three categories: the classical and nude body, aging and pregnant bodies, and the anatomical body. The exhibit, set to unveil the Met's sprawling new Condé Nast Galleries, has been made possible by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez, who are the lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs.
'The title 'Costume Art' refers to the history of the Costume Institute,' Andrew Bolton, the curator, said at a press conference. Bolton, who selects the theme, said fashion has 'the status of art because of, and not in spite of, its relation to the body.' French luxury fashion house Yves Saint Laurent is also sponsoring the exhibit.
Host Committee and Attendance
The 2026 Met Gala also has a host committee that includes committee co-chairs Anthony Vaccarello and Zoe Kravitz, along with members Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Angela Bassett, Gwendoline Christie, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, and more. 'Costume Art' will run from May 10, 2026, through January 10, 2027, following the Met Gala on May 4.
The Met Gala is a huge money-maker for the museum and provides the Costume Institute with its main source of funding.
Anna Wintour's Role and Past Controversy
The 2026 Met Gala marks a major moment as it is the first since Wintour technically stepped back from one of her famed roles at Vogue. In June 2025, Wintour announced she was stepping down as the editor-in-chief of American Vogue after 37 years. The global director for Vogue and global chief content officer at Condé Nast hired Chloe Malle as the new head of editorial content at Vogue. Wintour has famously been incredibly hands-on with the Met Gala over the years and is credited with making it the splashy A-list affair it has become, beloved by celebrities like Rihanna, the Kardashians, Blake Lively, Zendaya, and more.
Last year, many stars did not attend the Met Gala, and some people thought it was to avoid making a faux pas because of the theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' which was centered around the political and aesthetic constructs of Black dandyism.
