Edward Forest Pollock and Patricia Lila Pollock, both 91, celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a special party at Aspen Court Care Home in Gateshead, attended by the ceremonial mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Andrea Graham. The couple, who married on June 30, 1956, also received a card from the King and Queen ahead of the milestone occasion.
Surprise Celebration Organised by Care Home Staff
The news of the anniversary came to light only a few days before the event, thanks to the couple's daughter-in-law, according to care home manager Leigh Brown. The team at Aspen Court quickly organised a party to honour Edward and Patricia, who have lived at the home together.
Leigh Brown described the couple as "a wonderful couple" and said the staff were honoured to celebrate with them. "It's been a lovely opportunity to do something special. It's an amazing achievement to get to 70 years - I've been inspired! They're such a lovely couple and a lovely family. They are a pleasure to have here," she said.
Aspen Court Recognised Among Top Care Homes
Aspen Court was recently listed in the top 21 care homes in the region by the leading reviews site CareHomes.co.uk. Leigh Brown emphasised the home's commitment to making residents feel comfortable. "We're always aware this could be the last place someone calls home and we want it to be as comfortable as possible," she said. Speaking about the recognition, she added: "For us it's fab that that comes from our families and it speaks volumes."
Mayor Joins Celebrations
The ceremonial mayor of Gateshead, Coun Andrea Graham, was among the wellwishers at the party, which included cake and decorations. The couple, who have been together for seven decades, were surrounded by family and staff as they marked the rare milestone.
