The highly anticipated British horror thriller 28 Years Later has been hailed by fans and critics as the 'best film of 2025' since its release. The sequel to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later continues the UK's tradition of iconic thrillers such as A Clockwork Orange, Layer Cake and Casino Royale.
Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle and Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Alex Garland reunited for the film. The cast includes Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Edvin Ryding and Erin Kellyman.
The synopsis reads: 'It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway.'
Boasting an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, one critic branded it 'the best movie of the year'. The critics' consensus describes it as 'a haunting and visceral thrill ride that defies expectations'. A fan labelled it a 'masterpiece', while another called it 'a rocking gem of a movie'. David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter noted, 'Boyle and Garland still have plenty of fresh inspiration for pulse-pounding terror.'
