Fans of the Harry Potter franchise have noticed a sweet coincidence as HBO's upcoming TV series announced a new actress for the role of Ginny Weasley.
The book-accurate adaptation, which is set to premiere later this year, will base its first season on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. A second season has already been confirmed, expected to follow the events of The Chamber of Secrets.
New Cast Members Announced
On September 4, HBO revealed three new cast members joining the show for its second season. Billy Barratt (Bring Her Back, Invasion) will play Tom Riddle, and Lenny Rush (Am I Being Unreasonable) will take on the role of Dobby the house elf.
The announcement also confirmed a recasting for Ginny Weasley. Bonnie Hill will now play Ron Weasley's sister, following the departure of Gracie Cochrane, who left the project due to "unforeseen circumstances."
Fans Notice the Name Connection
Fans were quick to point out that the original Harry Potter films also featured a Bonnie in the role. Bonnie Wright played Ginny Weasley in all eight movies.
Adding to the coincidence, the newly cast Bonnie Hill also plays a character named Ginny in the children's series Girl Troop vs Aliens, which follows four 12-year-old friends at summer camp.
Reactions on social media highlighted the connection. One fan wrote: "OG and new Ginny both played by Bonnies." Another commented: "Both Ginny played by actresses named 'Bonnie' is so cute." A fifth added: "So happy to know that her name is Bonnie too!"
What to Expect
The official synopsis for the series reads: "There is nothing special about Harry Potter - or so his Aunt Petunia tells him. But when a mysterious letter of admission to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrives, it opens the door to a hidden world of magic, friendship and adventure."

The first season of HBO's Harry Potter series will release this Christmas.
