Period drama enthusiasts have implored the BBC to bring back 'Gentleman Jack', which they describe as one of the best shows on television. The series, set in 1830s Yorkshire, is based on the real-life diaries of Anne Lister, portrayed by Suranne Jones, a landowner and industrialist recognised as one of the first openly gay women in British history.
The show follows Lister's life at Shibden Hall in Halifax, where she inherited the estate and oversaw its redesign. Her main love interest is Anne Walker, played by Sophie Rundle. Created by Sally Wainwright, the series first aired in 2019 and garnered widespread critical acclaim, with a 92% rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics.
Despite its success, the show ended four years ago. However, a recent throwback clip posted by the BBC on social media reignited fan demand for a third season. Viewers flooded the comments with pleas, with one stating, 'Season 1 of this show was one of the best things I've ever seen on TV!' Another added, 'There needs to be season 3. It's so good and should never have been axed.'
