An Escape to the Country couple was left emotional after finding what they thought was their dream home, only to have the sale fall through.
Matt, a retired wine merchant, and Lizzy, a retired primary school teacher from Epsom, Surrey, appeared on the BBC property show in 2024, hoping to start a new life in Argyll and Bute, Scotland.
Search for the perfect home
Presenter Nicki Chapman was tasked with finding the couple a detached home with room for Lizzy's craft area and a stunning coastal view. With a budget of £600,000, the search seemed to be over within minutes of the first viewing.
The couple instantly fell in love with a property in Cowal Peninsula, Argyll, which was located minutes from the town centre. Lizzy praised the character of the property, the views, and the peaceful countryside setting.
Emotional moment
Matt described the house as "amazing," while Lizzy admired its features, including the roof and archway. Matt told Nicki the home looked "gorgeous" and joked they were ready to take it. Nicki agreed it seemed a perfect match, pointing out the peaceful surroundings and breathtaking views.
In an emotional moment, Lizzy struggled to hold back tears, saying, "Oh, I'm struggling to control my emotions. I think it is just so lovely."
Sale falls through
The couple was stunned when Nicki revealed the property was on the market for just £399,000, under their budget. They made an offer, which was accepted. However, their excitement was short-lived when the seller pulled out of the agreement, and the sale fell through.
Matt and Lizzy were forced to continue their search for a new home, leaving their plans for a new life in Scotland hanging in the balance.
