Emmerdale fans were delighted to see Angela Lonsdale join the ITV soap as DS Reid earlier this month. The 58-year-old actress plays a police officer working with Charity Dingle, who has courageously reported the villainous Dr Todd following her sexual assault in deeply affecting scenes.
Coronation Street Past
Coronation Street viewers immediately recognised DS Reid actress Angela from her stint as police officer Emma on Corrie between 2000 and 2003, where she was partnered with beloved character Curly Watts.
Since departing Coronation Street, Angela's career has seen her appear in Holby City, Doctors, This Is England '90, Our Girl, The Syndicate, and Hollyoaks, amongst others.
EastEnders Ex-Husband
Angela was previously married to EastEnders icon Perry Fenwick, who has portrayed Billy Mitchell on the BBC One soap since 1998. Perry and Angela's paths reportedly crossed at a soap industry event, and they tied the knot in 2005.
Their nuptials followed Perry's heartfelt proposal, during which he arranged pebbles on a beach to spell out a message, and she accepted. The pair swiftly became known for having one of soapland's strongest marriages and welcomed three children together: Lucy, Isabella, and Jayden.
However, Perry and Angela's marriage proved short-lived, and they decided to separate just five years after exchanging vows. A spokesperson for the pair said at the time: "Perry Fenwick and Angela Lonsdale have sadly separated after five years of marriage. They will not be making any further comment."
'Real Accent'
Following Angela's recent appearance in Emmerdale, the actress took to Instagram last week to post a welcome video for her new followers. The Cumberland-born star wrote: "hello and welcome to all me new followers ! #deeplygratefulforitall."
However, some of Angela's 10,000 new followers were left stunned upon hearing her 'real accent', as she spoke with a distinctive Geordie twang in the clip. One user commented: "Wow I never knew you were a geordie! Love your accent and you're doing an amazing job on emmerdale! Xxx" to which another replied: "I thought Angela was from Cumbria. Maybe picked up on the accent if she lives there x."
A further user wrote: "Never had you down as a Geordie. Can canny!", while another added: "Not used to hearing you with a Geordie accent!" and one devoted fan gushed: "@realangelalonsdale your voice is so smooth and calming."
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
