Eddie Murphy has confirmed he will play Inspector Clouseau in a new Pink Panther remake, sparking mixed reactions among fans. The 64-year-old actor revealed the news during an interview on NBC's Today show on Monday.
Murphy said the character will remain French but added, 'He could also be Haitian. I will tell you, he's Black. He's Black, for sure.' The role was originally played by Peter Sellers in the 1960s and 1970s, and later by Steve Martin in a 2006 reboot and 2009 sequel.
Fans took to social media to express their views. One wrote, 'No. No. No. hard pass will not watch,' while another said, 'No disrespect to Eddie... but this doesn't suit him at all.' However, some were excited, with one fan commenting, 'I'm actually really excited about this.'
Murphy has been in talks for the role since 2023. He is also working on a George Clinton biopic and Shrek 5.
