Dutton Ranch has arrived, and Yellowstone fans are already hailing it as 'better than Yellowstone' just minutes into the premiere episode. The spin-off, which follows the beloved characters Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), has captivated audiences with its dramatic opening sequence.
Devastating Wildfire Sets the Stage
The debut episode of Dutton Ranch on Paramount+ begins with Beth and Rip living their happily ever after at a beautiful new Montana ranch. However, within minutes, a devastating wildfire breaks out, destroying everything they own. The couple is forced to start over six months later in Rio Paloma, Texas. It is this intense opening that has fans convinced the spin-off will surpass the original series.
One fan on X commented: "Opening scene of #Yellowstone [spin-off] has me weak!" Another stated: "I'm going to go ahead and say it. Dutton Ranch is better than Yellowstone." A third viewer added: "WOW! The 15 minute Dutton Ranch opening is equal to if not better than the 17 minute Yellowstone Season four opening with the coordinated attack on the Duttons. A helluva way to kick off DUTTON RANCH!"
Fans 'Locked In' After 10 Minutes
Many viewers expressed immediate enthusiasm for the series. One user said they were "locked in" after just 10 minutes, while another commented: "I already know it's going to be even better than Yellowstone." A further viewer praised the premiere as "probably one of the best open into a season one I have seen on a couple of years."
Dutton Ranch joins a growing list of Taylor Sheridan spin-offs, including Marshals, 1883, and 1923. Future projects include a prequel titled 1944, set during World War II, and 6666, a present-day spin-off set at the famous Four Sixes Ranch in Texas.
New episodes of Dutton Ranch air weekly every Friday on Paramount+.
