Pop star Dua Lipa married actor Callum Turner in an intimate ceremony at Old Marylebone town hall in London on Sunday, wearing an ivory skirt suit that echoed Bianca Jagger's groundbreaking 1971 wedding ensemble. The couple was photographed grinning under a flurry of confetti, with Turner in a navy suit and Lipa in a Schiaparelli design by Daniel Roseberry, complete with a wide-brimmed hat by British milliner Stephen Jones.
Lipa's look featured surrealist-inspired buttons, including an evil eye and a lion's head, a blush-coloured corset, and hip padding for a sculpted shape. She accessorised with white gloves and a six-figure Bulgari Serpenti necklace previously worn to the Brit Awards. The outfit directly referenced Bianca Jagger's Yves Saint Laurent skirt-suit, which was considered scandalous in 1971 for its plunging neckline and non-traditional silhouette.
Bridal expert Rosie Boydell-Wiles noted that Jagger's look appeals to modern brides for its nonconformist attitude. 'The best bridal looks in history are the ones where you can see that the bride has really thought about who she is,' she said. Henrietta Rix, co-founder of fashion brand Rixo, added that Jagger's style encourages brides to experiment with separates and be authentic to their personal style.
Lipa's civil ceremony preceded a rumoured three-day celebration in Palermo, Sicily. Boydell-Wiles suggested that separates are particularly appealing for brides having multiple events, allowing them to show different facets of their personality. Lipa's bridal look, she said, helps cement the idea of 'who she really is rather than an onstage persona'.
