Cineworld staff in Birmingham stopped a screening of an Indian action movie after customers threw blue confetti into the air when a favourite actor appeared on screen. The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 23, at the Broad Street cinema.
Sanj Langi, 49, who filmed the confrontation, said about seven people threw confetti during the film 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu'. He left after half an hour because he disliked the film, but not before informing staff about the disruptive behaviour.
Footage shows workers halting the movie and telling the audience it is 'basic sense' not to throw confetti, even if they missed a sign prohibiting it. One staff member warned: 'If this happens again the whole movie is going off and everyone is going home.'
Mr Langi said throwing confetti is common in southern Indian cinemas, but added: 'This is England, not India. You have to go with the rules of the cinema.' He supported the staff's annoyance, noting the mess left for cleaners.
A Cineworld spokesperson said: 'We do not tolerate antisocial behaviour of any kind – whether it’s disturbing the customer experience in our screens or filming employees without their consent.'
