Chalamet and Zendaya Face Off in Dune: Part Three Trailer

Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya have gone head to head in the dramatic final trailer for Dune: Part Three.

The upcoming film is the third and last instalment in the hit sci-fi franchise, based on the Frank Herbert novels, and takes place over a decade after the events of the second film as it follows the consequences of Paul Atreides’s rise as galactic emperor.

War Breaks Out in the Final Instalment

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film sees an all-out war break out as Chani (Zendaya), Princess Irulan (Florence Pugh), and Scytale (Robert Pattinson) try to fight back Atreides’s (Chalamet) grip on power.

The second film ended with Atreides deciding to marry Princess Irulan, betraying Fremen warrior and his love interest Chani, and ascending the throne after toppling Emperor Shaddam IV.

Trailer Highlights and Returning Characters

The trailer opens with Atreides using the voice, a specialised technique that allows him to control others, as he says to Princess Irulan: “Tell me what you know!”

She exclaims: “There will be an assassination attempt. Chani’s involved.”

As armies gather, with war breaking out on land and in the sky, Scytale says: “We found a way to neutralise the emperor and end this madness.”

Speaking to Chani on her home planet of Arrakis, which is home to the sci-fi universe’s most valuable dust-like substance, spice, he asks her: “Ready?”

She replies: “Fremen keep their word.”

The trailer shows flashback scenes of Atreides and Chani together before he says: “After years of combat, I’ve become the oppressor Chani has sworn to fight. I’m the enemy.”

Jason Momoa Returns and Release Date

Jason Momoa returns to the franchise after his character, Duncan Idaho, was brought back to life as Hayt, a cloned human grown from his deceased cells.

Atreides asks him: “Promise you will protect my family?”

Hayt replies: “My emperor, don’t you have the power to stop this?”

The trailer ends with Chani shouting to Atreides through a haze of spice: “I was doing this for our children!”

He replies: “I’m doing this for you.” Before Chani runs over to embrace him, he adds: “There’s nothing I can say to make amends.”

The trailer also shows a blood-covered Anya Taylor-Joy as Atreides’s sister Alia, who appeared in a dream sequence in the second film.

Dune: Part Three will also see Rebecca Ferguson return as Lady Jessica while Spanish actor Javier Bardem will reprise his role as Stilgar.

The upcoming film is based on Dune Messiah, the second novel in Herbert’s 1960s series, and will complete Villeneuve’s trilogy.

Dune: Part Three will be out in cinemas across the UK on December 18.
