Beyond Paradise Cast Hail Stunning Season 4 Filming Locations in Devon and Cornwall

The beloved BBC series Beyond Paradise is set to make its highly anticipated return for a fourth season, premiering on Friday, March 27 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. As the cast prepares to welcome viewers back to the fictional town of Shipton Abbott, they have been effusive in their praise for the "stunning" filming locations across Devon and Cornwall, with several stars declaring that this season has "really raised the bar" in terms of scenic beauty.

Cast Members Reveal Their Favourite Filming Spots

Kris Marshall, who reprises his role as DI Humphrey Goodman, highlighted Mothecombe Beach as a particularly memorable location. "As always, we got to film in some stunning locations, especially Mothecombe Beach," Marshall explained. "You can only get down there by foot or in a 4x4, and when the sun is out, it feels like you’re in the Caribbean. Sally and I had a brilliant scene there - it was at sunrise and it was freezing, but so beautiful. I even got to have a dip in the sea!"

Sally Bretton, portraying Martha Lloyd, echoed this sentiment, recalling a "rather scandalous scene" filmed at the same beach. "We filmed this at sunrise at the most beautiful beach, but oh my goodness, it was freezing!" she remarked, emphasising the breathtaking yet challenging conditions.

Personal Connections and Standout Scenery

For Zahra Ahmadi, who plays DS Esther Williams, filming at Mount Edgcumbe held special personal significance. "One place that was really special for me was Mount Edgcumbe, which I’ve been visiting since I was a child," Ahmadi shared. "My granddad used to take me there a lot as the coastal path runs from his house all the way round to Kingsand and Cawsand, so we have completed countless family walks there. It was so lovely, in between filming, to sit outside and look at a view I’ve known my whole life, but in the different context of filming and playing Esther. It meant a great deal to me."

Dylan Llewellyn, in the role of PC Kelby Hartford, emphasised how the production has elevated its use of location scenery. "The locations are always incredible as Devon and Cornwall are just so beautiful, but this series has really raised the bar," Llewellyn stated. "There were mornings when I arrived on set at sunrise and immediately pulled out my phone to film the view in front of me. Those clips always go straight to the family group chat. Charlestown especially comes to mind as a standout location; it’s also where we shoot some of the cave scenes, which makes it particularly special."

Intriguing Plotlines Set Against Breathtaking Backdrops

Season 4 promises to deliver a fresh wave of mind-boggling puzzles for DI Humphrey Goodman and his team, all set against the dramatic landscapes of Devon and Cornwall. The new episodes will feature:

  • The suspicious death of a crime novelist, whose final plot eerily mirrors their demise.
  • An intruder who returns to undo the crime scene they created.
  • A witness claiming a mermaid wrecked a local seaweed farm, blurring fact and folklore.
  • An off-grid community fighting developers with the image of the Green Man.
  • A Morris dancer targeted in plain sight.
  • A stolen pirate map reappearing under mysterious circumstances.

These captivating storylines are enhanced by the picturesque settings, which include not only Mothecombe Beach, Mount Edgcumbe, and Charlestown but also various other coastal and rural spots across the region. The combination of intricate mysteries and visually arresting locations aims to provide viewers with an immersive and engaging viewing experience.

As the cast and crew celebrate the completion of another successful season, their enthusiasm for the filming locations underscores the integral role that Devon and Cornwall's natural beauty plays in the show's appeal. With its return scheduled for late March, Beyond Paradise season 4 is poised to captivate audiences once again, offering both compelling narratives and a visual feast of some of Britain's most stunning scenery.
