The Rapture, a new psychological thriller series on BBC One and iPlayer, premieres on Sunday, July 26. The five-part adaptation, set and filmed in Wales, is based on Liz Jensen's bestselling eco-thriller of the same name.

The story centres on a teenager accused of murdering her mother who claims she can predict catastrophes. The series is written by Bryony Kimmings and Rebecca Manley. Author Liz Jensen said: "The story feels far more timely now than when I wrote the book. Cast and Characters
Ruth Madeley stars as forensic psychologist Gabs Fox, who takes on a role at a high-security psychiatric institution. There she meets 17-year-old Bethany Krall (India Amarteifio), who was sectioned after the murder of her mother Carys Krall. Bethany's father, Leonard Krall (Sam Hazeldine), leads the Faith Way, a spiritual movement with millions of online followers. The cast also includes Iwan Rheon, Jack Farthing, Stephen Campbell Moore, Lisa Palfrey, Siena Kelly, Naby Dakhli, Richard Elis, Dean Rehman, Robert Rhodes, and Ruth Jones.
Story Details
Bethany insists she has visions of the future, which she conveys through disturbing sketches of disasters like storms, fires, and floods. Her nurse Rafiq believes her predictions always come true, but Gabs remains skeptical. As a heatwave intensifies and demonstrators fill the streets, Gabs notices troubling links between Bethany's drawings and real-world events. With journalist Dick Carwyn (Iwan Rheon) and engineer Frasier Melville (Jack Farthing), she investigates the Krall family history. A synopsis notes: "Bethany was convicted of murdering her mother but claims she is innocent." The series is described as a high-octane thriller.
