Anna Maxwell Martin stars in a gripping crime drama based on Holly Jackson's bestselling novels, now available on Netflix. The series, titled 'A Good Girl's Guide to Murder,' originally aired on the BBC in 2024 and received an 82% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Plot and Cast
The story follows teenager Pip Fitz-Amobi, played by Emma Myers (known for Netflix's 'Wednesday'), who investigates the murder of a 17-year-old girl. Anna Maxwell Martin portrays Leanne Amobi, Pip's mother. The first season is now streaming on Netflix, with the second season having premiered on BBC iPlayer in May 2026. A third and final season, consisting of four episodes, is scheduled for 2027 and will adapt the concluding book in Jackson's series, 'As Good As Dead.'
Season One Details
In the first season, Pip delves into the death of schoolgirl Andie Bell in Little Kilton five years earlier. Her boyfriend, Sal Singh (Rahul Pattni), confessed via text before apparently taking his own life. Andie's body was never found, and the case was closed, but Pip believes Sal is innocent and seeks justice, leading to a dark and twisted narrative.
Anna Maxwell Martin's Reaction
Anna Maxwell Martin expressed her delight in being part of the production, stating, 'I so enjoyed being part of A Good Girl's Guide To Murder with a really lovely cast, crew and creatives. Can't wait for all the people who love Holly's book to see it brought to their screens.' She also noted that her daughter was a fan of the books, adding, 'It's quite nice that I'm in something they can watch rather than things that are inappropriate or that makes them cringe massively and hate watching me in it.'
Discussing her character Leanne, she described her as 'pretty nice as a mum,' explaining, 'She just cares about and is a bit worried about [Pip]. She can see Pip going down a precarious road.'
'A Good Girl's Guide to Murder' season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
