Fans of crime dramas and mystery thrillers are in for a treat, as Netflix offers a gripping and darkly twisted series featuring Anna Maxwell Martin. The show, adapted from Holly Jackson's novels, centers on a teenager investigating a murder.
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder
The series first aired on the BBC in 2024, earning an 82% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Wednesday star Emma Myers plays Pip Fitz-Amobi, while Anna Maxwell Martin portrays her mother, Leanne Amobi. Season one is available on Netflix now.
Season two dropped on BBC iPlayer in May 2026, with a third and final series set for 2027. The shorter third season, consisting of four episodes, adapts the concluding book, As Good As Dead.
Plot Overview
In season one, Pip investigates the murder of schoolgirl Andie Bell five years earlier. Andie's boyfriend, Sal Singh, confessed via text before his apparent suicide. Andie's body was never found, but Pip believes Sal is innocent and seeks the truth.
Anna Maxwell Martin expressed her delight at being part of the series, saying: "I so enjoyed being part of A Good Girl's Guide To Murder with a really lovely cast, crew and creatives. Can't wait for all the people who love Holly's book to see it brought to their screens."
The actress also noted that her daughter was a devoted fan of the books: "When something comes along that your children are going mad for, you do tend to have a little look and get involved in it. It's quite nice that I'm in something they can watch."
Discussing her character Leanne, she described her as "pretty nice as a mum," adding: "She just cares about and is a bit worried about [Pip]. She can see Pip going down a precarious road."
A Good Girl's Guide to Murder season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
