Al Pacino and Beverly D'Angelo have formed a deep bond and remain extremely close more than 20 years after their breakup. That spirit of friendship was written all over their faces as they stepped out to celebrate The Godfather star's 86th birthday on Friday, a day early but evidently good things cannot wait.
A Stylish Outing
Pacino and D'Angelo, who are parents to twins Anton and Olivia, 25, were fashionably dressed for their outing and aided by comfortable sneakers. The 74-year-old star of National Lampoon's Vacation looked classy in a yellow blazer, white top, and navy slacks finished off with a cozy scarf. Pacino, who keeps up an active social life with the likes of Harvey Keitel, Robert De Niro, Tobey Maguire, and others, opted for his usual dark attire but added a fringed scarf and beanie for a stylish aesthetic.
Their Romantic History
The exes had a passionate affair that lasted from 1996 to 2003. They met on a flight to New York and quickly became a couple, with D'Angelo later commenting they were 'on' before they landed. They went on to welcome their twins in 2001 via IVF, but split two years later, becoming embroiled in a messy and public legal dispute over visitation and child support, which they were able to settle in 2004. Fortunately, they later developed a positive co-parenting relationship and friendship that is still true today.
Insights from D'Angelo
In a video shared to Instagram in 2021, D'Angelo shed insight on their past romance and the bond they have managed to maintain over the years. It was her response to questions fans had been asking her, per People. 'I lived with Al for seven years and we have two children,' the actress said in the clip, which she named, 'Because you asked…' 'In 1996, we were on the same plane going from Los Angeles to New York. He was seated in front of me, he said "come up and sit beside me," and by the time the plane landed, it was on,' D'Angelo described. 'In 1997, he looked me in the eye and said "I want you to be the mother of my children," and although I had avoided that role my whole life, I was deeply in love and I was 100 percent in.'
Their IVF journey to have children together began in 1997, and four years on, success at last when Anton and Olivia were born. 'Yikes, it got complicated, and our split was finalized in 2004,' the mother-of-two said of the relationship's downward spiral, adding, 'The power of our love for our children was the basis for resolving our conflicts and creating a new history as coparents. Leading individual lives separately but always intertwined as a family.' 'As for me and Al, it is a unique and profound friendship between two artists that endures to this day, through thick and thin, 27 years now of doing it our way. And there you have it.'
Pacino's Other Relationships
