Adrian Grenier has addressed his absence from the long-awaited sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, which hits cinemas this spring. The actor, who played Nate in the original 2006 film, revealed he was “disappointed” not to have been asked back.
In the sequel, Anne Hathaway returns as Andy Sachs, now Features Editor at Runway, alongside Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Andy’s new love interest is Peter, played by newcomer Patrick Brammall, meaning Nate was written out of the storyline.
Director David Frankel confirmed he had considered a cameo for Nate, but told Entertainment Weekly: “It was just too late in our production schedule to make it happen,” with filming finishing less than a month before the release date.
Grenier admitted to Page Six that he understood the decision, citing “some backlash with Nate, the character”. He recently appeared in a Starbucks advert cheekily referencing his exclusion: “I wasn’t asked to be part of a certain sequel. But I’m good. Really.”
