The fifth series of Welsh crime drama 35 Diwrnod is now available on ITVX, offering viewers a fresh mystery to unravel. The show, which first aired in 2014, has built a loyal following across its previous four series.
New series plot
Titled 35 Diwrnod: Parti Plu (or 35 Days: Hen Party), the new run stars Gwenllian Higginson and Geraint Todd. It follows a couple preparing for their wedding, with everything arranged for their special day. As with earlier seasons, a body is discovered on the 35th day, and the story then tracks backward, allowing viewers to piece together events.
The opening shows a young couple getting ready for their wedding, but a dark turn comes quickly: in the first few minutes, an ominous glimpse of a woman in a wedding dress and veil floating face down in the sea appears. Meanwhile, the groom waits anxiously in the church.

Writer Fflur Dafydd teased details on her website, saying: “We know from the outset that there has been a murder and we work back from there – as we do with every other series of 35. But despite the whodunnit element – I think with this particular series that the characters and their secrets become far more compelling.”
Viewer and critic reaction
The series has proved a hit with audiences. One viewer on IMDb.com posted: “I just finished bingeing all four seasons.” Another said: “Last couple miniseries I watched have left me cold. This did not! Once you get into that different stories being told simultaneously it is a great binge!” A third remarked: “This noir series, at least in the first season, almost becomes a black comedy in its over-the-top willingness to leave death and destruction everywhere. But I liked it. I binge-watched.”
Critics have also been impressed, with one reviewer calling it “gripping” and another saying it keeps you “on the edge of your seat”.
