Danny Boyle's 2002 post-apocalyptic horror film 28 Days Later, written by Alex Garland, is being broadcast on BBC1 this evening at 10:45pm. The movie, made on a budget of $8 million and shot on SD digital cameras, stars Cillian Murphy as a young man who wakes from a coma 28 days later to find central London deserted.
Plot and Cast
Murphy's character soon discovers that an aggressive virus has swept across the UK, turning people into flesh-eating rage zombies. The film also features Naomie Harris, Christopher Eccleston, and Brendan Gleeson, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest British horror films ever made.
Sequels and New Trilogy
28 Days Later spawned sequels, including 28 Weeks Later (2007). A new trilogy with Boyle and Garland is currently ongoing, with 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple already released. A third film, starring Murphy's character Jim, is set to begin filming next year.
