Zoe Rae, sister of former Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague, has sparked backlash in Bali after publicly criticising the island and leaving her planned 10-day holiday after just 48 hours. The 28-year-old fitness influencer travelled to Indonesia with her husband Danny to celebrate their first wedding anniversary but said the reality did not match the luxury portrayed on social media.
In a YouTube vlog, Rae described Bali as 'nothing like influencers make out,' claiming that the glamorous images shown online do not reflect the true state of the island. She stayed at the five-star Radisson Blu hotel with a sea view but still felt disappointed, stating: 'We got told Uluwatu... is one of the best places to go... if this is one of the better places, I'm not sure where the other places are like.'
The comments have angered locals, with some calling for her to be barred from returning. Travel agent Yuli Budi Santoso told MailOnline: 'I think in the future, they have to be blacklisted from entering Indonesia. They have already made Bali look bad.' Balinese activist and lawyer I Made Somya Putra also urged authorities to put the couple on a watch list, comparing Rae's criticism to 'tasting a scoop of water and thinking you can judge the whole ocean.'
Bali is a popular destination for influencers, but the average monthly wage in Indonesia is less than £140. Rae and her husband cut their trip short and flew to Dubai instead, where they planned to spend the remainder of their anniversary holiday. In her vlog, Rae said: 'I think it is just personal preference, and our preference was that this isn't for us, and we are making the executive decision to go enjoy our anniversary somewhere we know that we love and can relax and can drink the water.'
