Zelda Themed Switch 2 and Controller Rumoured for Ocarina of Time Remake
Zelda Themed Switch 2 and Controller Rumoured for Ocarina

Nintendo is expected to host a new Direct for the Zelda: Ocarina Of Time remake, with rumours suggesting new Switch 2 hardware as well. Despite its official announcement at the last Nintendo Direct, details about the remake remain scarce. Since it is slated to launch this year, it is likely intended as Nintendo's big Christmas game, potentially competing with GTA 6 in November.

Rumours of Zelda Themed Hardware

Rumours of a Zelda themed Switch 2 and controller originate from Nintendo YouTuber Mike Odyssey, who claims on X that there are plans for a new Switch 2 Pro Controller to tie in with the Ocarina Of Time remake, though he suggests it will release 'instead of a themed Nintendo Switch 2.' Necro Felipe, editor at Brazilian site Universo Nintendo, corroborates the claim, saying he has seen the controller. He describes it as 'Green (at the tips, similar to that of Splatoon) with gold, the Triforce crest centred between the buttons – and +.'

Conflicting Reports

Felipe accurately leaked the existence of the Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen re-releases, but does not claim to know if a Zelda themed Switch 2 is also in production. However, insider Shpeshal Nick insists that both a Zelda console and controller are on the way, but claims they are not themed specifically around Ocarina Of Time. It seems plausible Nintendo would release a branded Switch 2 as a Christmas gift, which would be the first themed Switch 2 console after a year of only basic black colouring.

Precedent for Zelda Hardware

Nintendo has released Zelda themed hardware for major launches and anniversaries before. The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom was accompanied by a themed Switch OLED and controller, and there have been several Zelda themed 3DSes and a themed Wii U GamePad as part of a Zelda: The Wind Waker bundle.

Potential Direct Timing

Any new hardware announcements could be included in a wider showcase for the Ocarina Of Time remake. Nintendo has not shown much of the game beyond a few seconds of footage at the last Direct. The company has had only one general showcase about first party games this year, with other titles getting dedicated showcases. When a Zelda Direct might air is uncertain, given Nintendo's unpredictability. The company typically airs general Directs every September, but a dedicated Zelda showcase could happen at any time.
