Worst Neighbor Ever 911 Call Captures Dad Shot Dead

Netflix's new true crime series Worst Neighbor Ever includes the harrowing 911 call made after Jamal 'JT' Thomas fatally shot Miles Armstead in Oakland, California. Thomas was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 28.8 years to life in prison.

Neighbor's Campaign of Intimidation

Melina Armstead and her husband Miles purchased a home in the Eastmont Hills neighborhood of Oakland, California. They were raising four children and expecting their first child together. Miles struck up a friendship with Jamal Thomas, known as JT. However, when Thomas's family was evicted from their property, he began a campaign of intimidation.

After eviction, Thomas squatted illegally in the garage of his former home and repeatedly targeted the Armsteads with harassment. He threw rocks through their windows, and despite numerous calls to police, the intimidation escalated.

The Fatal Shooting

The Armsteads eventually relocated to a new apartment. One day, Miles returned to the old neighborhood to run an errand, where Thomas confronted him and drew a weapon. Thomas shot Miles multiple times in the middle of the street. Neighbor and close friend Matt Guido witnessed the shooting and made a chilling 911 call, which was broadcast in the documentary along with CCTV footage.

On the call, Matt said: "He's done shot somebody up! He shot like 10 rounds! I don't know if somebody's hurt, man, this is bad." When the call handler asked if he could see anyone on the ground, he screamed: "Yes, he shot my neighbour! F***! Get back! Get back! He shot my neighbour, man! He killed my f****** neighbour! That m*****f***** killed my neighbour, man, it was JT!"

Matt saw Miles lying on the ground and tried to help him. He recounted through tears: "He wasn't shaking, he wasn't breathing, he wasn't convulsing, he wasn't gasping. He was still, and then I knew he was dead."

Conviction and Sentence

Melina Armstead described a premonition while alone in their new home, sensing something was wrong. She rushed to their former address and discovered that her husband had been fatally shot.
