Woman says men love her natural body hair after years without shaving

Amy Ginger Hart, 35, who goes by the name Hart, has amassed more than 700,000 followers on Instagram, and has recently spoken out about how her body hair is significantly boosting her career.

She gave up shaving in her mid-twenties after spending years feeling as though being hairless was simply expected of women. Since accepting her natural body hair, she claims to have become "way, way more successful" in her adult career, with roughly one in four of her custom requests now centred specifically around it.

Earnings and fan requests

In Hart's case, she charges around $100 (roughly £75) a minute for videos and says she can comfortably earn $1,000 (£756.07) a day from them, with fans requesting everything from close-ups of her armpit hair to footage of her running her fingers through it.

Hart estimates that approximately half of her subscribers are particularly drawn to her body hair, with many reportedly becoming upset at the mere thought of her shaving it off.

"It never would have crossed my mind that my body hair would become this popular," she said.

Why she stopped shaving

"I will say that from the period of time where I was removing all my body hair, compared to now where I don't, I am way, way more successful," she said. "I always hated shaving. I remember one of my older sisters showing me how to shave my legs when I was around 12, and just thinking 'ugh, I don't like this'."

"I found it unnatural and unsettling. It was something I thought I was required to do, no matter how much I hated it. It irritated my skin and felt so uncomfortable."

"I stopped in my 20s because I just had so many other things I would rather do with that time and I was on a self-love journey. I started becoming more self-actualised and just lost the motivation to appear 'acceptable' at the cost of my own ease in my body."

"I realised anyone who was going to be put off by something as silly as hair wasn't my cup of tea anyway, so why keep trying to please those people? I think becoming a sex worker contributed to that mindset as well - plenty of people were already going to be upset or disgusted by who I was choosing to be, so what was the harm in giving them one more thing to get worked up about?"

Mixed reactions and business impact

It's now been at least five years since Hart last removed hair from her legs. She acknowledges trimming her armpits and intimate areas every few months, but she only does what's necessary to maintain those regions.

She says people's opinions are divided - they either embrace it or reject it. Nevertheless, she confessed people generally have "strong reactions" to her appearance regardless.

"For some people it's disgusting, and a sign that I don't take care of myself," she added. "For others it's the most goddess-like attribute imaginable and all they want is to worship at the altar of bush."

"In my real life, no one mentions it. In my community - which is 99% queer people - having body hair is actually the norm."

Hart also revealed that having more body hair has been "amazing" for her business. She claims that for many people, it provides the "shock factor".

"Photos showing my body hair tend to go viral because people have such a visceral reaction to seeing it and they just have to comment, and that drives engagement. Even hate comments can be great for business!"

"The first messages I receive from so many of my subscribers are about my body hair and how it drew them in. I've had extremely powerful men make serious relationship proposals to me based on Instagram photos showing my armpits, and a bit of my bush peeking out of my bikini."

"For the men who love it, it's the most erotic and womanly thing to them. I also think the combination of being a redhead and being hairy makes me fairly unique in the industry."

"Bright orange pubic hair is a bit of a unicorn in the landscape of adult content. I think people crave novelty, so whether or not it's someone's particular fetish it piques curiosity and gets people clicking through."
