A woman who looks exactly like the new Prime Minister is “leaning into” comparisons and calls herself Mandy Burnham.
Chaplain Emma Roberts, 54, and Mr. Burnham, 56, have the same haircut, brows, thick-rimmed spectacles and, one might argue, the same look of steely resilience and want for a better future for the UK.
Rugby and real ale fan Emma, from Swansea, addressed the comparisons on TikTok. She smiled at the camera and said there was a “bit of a national laugh going on about this at the moment” so “she’s just leaning into it”.
Support for pub tax cuts
Just like Mr. Burnham, Emma has a certain love for pubs, backing the PM’s tax cut for pubs, adding: “Supporting pubs as a working-class tradition is hugely important – they are the heart of our communities.”
Emma said of her new ‘Mandy Burnham’ nickname: “People are loving it and finding it hilarious. I was talking to my mum and sister on Zoom and said, ‘People are saying I look like Andy Burnham’.
“And my own mother said, ‘For 20 minutes I’ve been thinking the same’. I couldn’t believe it!”
Partner joins in
Emma’s partner Iona has also started calling her: “Our Mandy, woman of the People”.
Emma is a lifelong Labour voter, keen on football and lives at No. 101. If she were leader for a day, ‘Mandy’ would make it a law for every pub to serve Double Dragon Ale, Yorkshire Crisps and Joe’s Ice Cream.
It’s unclear what Andy Burnham thinks of the resemblance, but the PM has been approached for comment.
It’s not the first time a PM has been compared to something else. In 2022, Liz Truss found herself in a ‘who can last longest’ race with a lettuce – which she lost.
