Stockport actor Will Mellor has been flooded with messages of support as he unveiled a first in his career, 36 years after his TV debut. The 50-year-old actor announced his first memoir, titled Where There's A Will: My Story, which will be released on November 5th in hardback, ebook, and audiobook formats. Pre-orders are now available.
From Children's Ward to Memoir
Mellor has been bagging roles since 1990, when he was first credited as 'William Mellor' playing Ben Rowlingson in Children's Ward, the ITV children's drama filmed in Bolton from 1989 to 2000. Memorable roles in Hollyoaks, where he played James 'Jambo' Bolton, and that of Gaz Wilkinson in Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, followed, and he has not been far from the small screen ever since.
More recently, he starred in the hit ITV show Mr Bates vs The Post Office as subpostmaster Lee Castleton, and played gangster Harvey Gaskell in Coronation Street. Away from acting, he also co-hosts the successful The Two Pints Podcast with his former Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps co-star Ralf Little. Mellor also competed in Strictly Come Dancing in 2022.
'It Was Like Therapy'
Mellor confirmed the news in a video posted to social media. He said: "Hello, you all right? I've got some big news I want to share with you. Well, it's big news for me anyway. My autobiography is coming out. My book is out on the 5th of November, but you can actually pre-order it now if you click the link in the bio. It's called Where There's a Will and it's a story of my life. I've always wanted to do a book, but I didn't want to do it too early. I wanted to wait until I had something I really wanted to say. And I was 50 this year, and I thought, 'Yeah, I've got a story to tell now!' I've got stuff I want to say and speak about, and it's all in there. I've been as open, as honest, as I could have been. It was like therapy. I laughed and cried a lot doing this book, but it's my life."
He added: "It's called Where There's a Will... So, listen, I really appreciate your support. Click the link in the bio, and preorder it if you can, please. I really appreciate it. And I hope you like it, all right. Take care."
Fan Support Floods In
Mellor also captioned the announcement on Instagram: "I'm really excited to finally be able to share this… My memoir, Where There's A Will, is coming out this November. Over the years, I've been lucky enough to have some incredible highs, made plenty of mistakes, had loads of laughs, and been through some tough times, too. I turned 50 this year and it felt like the right time to tell the story properly, the good, the bad and everything in between. Writing this has been a real emotional journey, and I honestly can't wait for you all to read it. It's out on 5th November in hardback, ebook and audiobook, and you can pre-order your copy now via the link in my bio."
