Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were seen together on a rare night out, marking their first public appearance as a couple in six months. The duo attended a family dinner at Nobu Malibu but arrived separately to the upscale restaurant.
Family Gathering at Nobu Malibu
Joining Will and Jada were their son Jaden, Will's mother Caroline, and his son Trey from his previous marriage to Sheree Zampino. Will opted for a casual ensemble of a white top and grey jogging bottoms, while Jada donned a long black coat paired with a Louis Vuitton skirt, accessorised with a designer handbag and two necklaces. Although they did not arrive together, the pair were photographed leaving in the same black Land Rover.
Previous Public Outings
The dinner comes six months after their last public sighting at Paris Fashion Week in January, which was itself four months after their previous joint appearance. During that event, they supported Jaden as he unveiled his first collection as Men's Creative Director for Christian Louboutin.
Details of Their Separation
Their sporadic outings follow Jada's revelation that she and Will separated in 2016. In a 2023 interview on the Today Show with Hoda Kotb, Jada explained: "By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be." Despite the separation, Jada, who previously admitted to an affair with August Alsina in 2020, expressed her reluctance to pursue a divorce. She stated: "I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever. And I just haven't been able to break that promise."
A source told People that while they live separately, Will and Jada have not "completely severed ties." They continue to collaborate professionally through their entertainment company, Westbrook, which signed a first-look deal with Paramount to produce films last year. Under this partnership, Will is expected to take on acting roles, while Jada focuses on producing.
The Oscars Incident
The infamous 2022 Oscars slap occurred after Chris Rock made a joke about Jada's bald head, referencing her alopecia and comparing her to "GI Jane." Will stormed the stage and struck Chris, demanding he "take my wife's name out of your mouth." At the time, the couple's marriage was already under scrutiny due to Jada's public discussion of her "entanglement" with August Alsina, who is 21 years her junior.
