Curtis Holland, better known across the internet as "King Curtis," shot to viral stardom as a youngster following his appearance on a now-legendary 2009 episode of the US reality TV programme Wife Swap. At merely six years old, Curtis captured enormous online fame for his fierce, defiant, and side-splitting resistance to a temporary "replacement mother," Joy Brown.
Clashes over bacon and chicken nuggets
Joy, who operated a fitness boot camp, attempted to impose a rigorous, raw-food diet on the Holland household. In stark contrast, Curtis's real family lived with minimal rules, enjoyed demolition derbies, and indulged his substantial fast-food consumption - which earned him the moniker "King Curtis" because he essentially ran the household.
When Joy attempted to rid the family fridge of processed meats, Curtis fiercely defended his dietary preferences. His theatrical responses gave birth to numerous iconic internet quotations, including: "Bacon is good for me!", "Chicken nuggets is like my family", "I don't wanna be skinny! I wanna be fat and happy!" And "She acts like she's the queen and we're the sorry people!"
The friction between Curtis and Joy didn't completely disappear once filming wrapped, either. While they briefly reconnected years following the show's broadcast, Curtis eventually chose to block her on social media to properly move past the experience.
Missed deals and a Pawn Stars appearance
At one stage, Curtis famously packed a small suitcase and departed home, announcing he wouldn't come back until his bacon-prohibiting replacement mother had left. Despite his enormous online following, Curtis did not earn a fortune from the viral memes.
A major meat company reportedly approached his family with a lucrative official bacon endorsement deal, but they were forced to decline because Curtis was legally bound by a strict contract with ABC (the network that broadcast Wife Swap). A reality show pilot revolving around him was also filmed but never commissioned by a network.
In 2016, a teenage Curtis made a fleeting appearance alongside his father on the programme Pawn Stars, where they unsuccessfully attempted to flog a 1920s video camera to buy him a motor. He wanted $800 (£600) but rejected a $100 (£75) offer.
A quieter life away from fame
Curtis has now deliberately opted for a quiet existence away from the Hollywood limelight, working as an outdoor welder at International Paper.
Based in North Carolina, US, he is a passionate outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, fishing, boating, and tinkering with cars. His social media reflects this transformation, concentrating on faith and outdoor pursuits rather than his childhood stardom.
Decades on, Curtis has amusingly confirmed that his position hasn't shifted on bacon, maintaining it's still 'good for him'. Yet while he remains an absolute devotee of bacon, his intense childhood fixation with fast food has mellowed. He has joked that he no longer devours chicken nuggets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but still indulges in them at least once a fortnight.
Curtis tends to guard his private life closely and maintains a fairly understated presence on social media, meaning his exact current relationship status is not publicly shared. However, during a brief return to the spotlight a few years ago, he did confirm that he had a girlfriend at the time.
