Brittany Begley, a 44-year-old meteorologist, has confirmed she was fired from her high-profile weather presenting role at KPRC after an online rant that went viral. In a lengthy Instagram post, she criticized her bosses, colleagues, and the fact that she never received a daytime Emmy award, one of TV journalism's highest honors.
Begley's Instagram Response
In her post, Begley expressed gratitude for being relieved of her duties, writing: "No longer with KPRC — and for that, I’m truly grateful. Maybe you’ve read the headlines? I believe in accountability. This conversation won’t be going away anytime soon." She added that she plans to dedicate a weekly series to the topic as she competes in digital sales and marketing, emphasizing her integrity and hard work.
She also shared her response to a New York Times article about her rant, stating she is "an advocate for mental health" and insisting: "I’m not afraid of being disliked for saying what others won’t — especially when living paycheck to paycheck."
Rant Details: Emmy Frustration and Workplace Complaints
In her initial Instagram diatribe, Begley complained that despite years of hard work, she never won an Emmy because "the markets I worked in never thought traffic reporting was worthy of one." She also criticized her work-life balance, confessing she was "tired of coming home to an empty refrigerator."
Regarding her co-workers, she alleged they would come into work "only to turn on the TV and watch a team normalise bad behavior: consistently late, not even mic’d up ten minutes before a show, then put it on air as a segment." She added: "I know I’m not alone. A lot of people inside and outside this industry feel exactly like I do."
Aftermath and Future Plans
After her post went viral, Begley insisted she hadn't meant to insult her colleagues and only wanted to spread awareness about mental health. She revealed she is aspiring to a "bigger role in TV where I can advocate for people like me who started from the ground up."
Prior to joining KPRC, Begley worked at networks in California, South Carolina, and Ohio. According to her Instagram, she is not disagreeing with the separation and believes in accountability.
