Weather Girl Sacked After Instagram Rant Slamming Colleagues

Meteorologist Brittany Begley, 44, has been fired from her position at KPRC-TV in Houston, Texas, following a scathing Instagram rant in which she criticized her colleagues and lamented never receiving an Emmy award. Begley, who joined the station in 2024, confirmed her departure earlier this week, stating she was 'truly grateful' to leave.

Rant Details

Earlier this month, Begley posted a lengthy Instagram rant complaining about her workplace. She expressed frustration over never winning an Emmy, one of broadcast journalism's highest honors in the US, claiming that the markets she worked in never considered traffic reporting worthy of the award. She also criticized her co-workers for what she described as unprofessional behavior, including 'not being mic'd up ten minutes before going on air.'

Alongside a selfie in front of her refrigerator, Begley wrote: 'Sorry, but I’m tired of coming home to an empty refrigerator. Honestly, I don’t belong here anymore. Too many things I just can’t ignore… Never won an Emmy because the markets I worked in never thought traffic reporting was worthy of one. After the pandemic, I told myself that when I die, at least I’ll know I stood for something - even if the industry never technically thought I was worthy.'

She continued: 'Only to turn on the TV and watch a team normalize bad behavior: consistently late, not even mic’d up ten minutes before a show, then put it on air as a segment. Where I come from, it’s a write-up, at the very least.'

Aftermath and Confirmation

Despite the rant going viral and making headlines in the US, Begley appeared on air afterward and posted work clips on Instagram. However, she later announced her departure with a post stating: 'No longer with KPRC — and for that, I’m truly grateful. I believe in accountability. This conversation won’t be going away anytime soon.'

She added: 'I’m dedicating at least a weekly series to this as I compete in the digital sales and marketing space with integrity. Higher quality, better value, lower price. I’m proving to you that I operate with integrity through my actions and the emails showing how hard I worked to bring positive impact to KPRC. I wouldn’t say it if I couldn’t prove it.'

Begley also told the Houston Chronicle: 'I do disagree with how the weekends were handled after several attempts to make it better for all.'

Background

Begley had previously shared her financial struggles, posting a photo of herself slumped over her desk in May with the caption: 'Hungry, but can barely afford groceries. It’s a real reality. I know because at times during my career, that was me. Even after the pandemic, I’m still recovering financially. But I really can’t tell you how many days I’ve hung my head low because someone made me feel small—whether it was my clothes, my talent, or lack thereof. Meanwhile, I was a young mom working 7 days a week.'
