Wayne Lineker on Why He Needed to Change His Image

Wayne Lineker, the younger brother of football legend Gary Lineker, has opened up about his transformation from a tabloid hate figure to a beloved personality in Ibiza. The 60-year-old businessman, who owns the popular Ocean Beach club, admits he was once seen as 'a bit of a dick' due to his provocative social media posts and outrageous statements.

Lineker moved to Tenerife in 1986 and opened Lineker's bar, later expanding to Marbella and eventually Ibiza 14 years ago. He built a business empire but also crafted a public image that led to backlash. He says he posted 'near-the-edge content' inspired by controversial social media personality Dan Bilzerian, but it didn't work for him, leading to 'a couple of years that were really tough'.

Now, Lineker says he has changed his persona for his family and himself. He notes that he now gets up to 500-600 requests for selfies a day at Ocean Beach, comparing himself to Mickey Mouse at Disneyland. He says he plans his day around the photo requests, which have become a challenge for stag and hen parties to get a picture with him.

Despite his age, Lineker continues to host 150 pool parties in 150 days this summer. He says he's looking forward to a season free of restrictions after two 'pretty terrible' years, and plans to spend the rest of his life in Ibiza.
