The Waterloo Road team has paid tribute after two of its stars died within days of each other. Actor William Rush, aged 31, passed away on 17 December, followed by Lorraine Cheshire, aged 65, on 19 December.
William Rush played schoolboy Josh Stevenson on the BBC drama from 2009 to 2013, appearing in 168 episodes. Lorraine Cheshire portrayed Fleur Budgen from 2007 to 2012. The show’s official Instagram account shared black and white photos of both actors, with a caption describing it as “a very sad week for the Waterloo Road family”.
William’s mother, Coronation Street star Debbie Rush, announced his death on social media, revealing he had been an organ donor. “Even in our darkest moment, William gave the most precious gift of all,” she wrote. Lorraine’s partner John Dixon confirmed her death, posting: “The love of my life passed away early this morning… my heart is broken.”
Tributes have flooded in from fans and co-stars. Chanel Cresswell, who worked with Lorraine on Trollied, said: “Lozza thank you for being a friend to me. I’ll miss you so much.” Chelsee Healey, another Waterloo Road alum, wrote: “My heart breaks for you all.”
William also appeared in Grange Hill, Shameless, Casualty and Vera, while Lorraine was known for roles in Early Doors and Trollied. The Waterloo Road statement added: “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to their families and friends.”
