Taiwanese actor Wang Kai, best known for his role in the drama series Bittersweet Destiny, died at age 43. He was found unresponsive on a rooftop structure at his residence in Taipei's Da'an District on Sunday, July 26.
Police received a report of a death and arrived to find Wang—whose real name was Wang Chien-lun—on the floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations showed no signs of external injuries or forced entry. A formal forensic examination will take place in the coming days.
Filming and Discovery
Wang had been filming the latest installment of Bittersweet Destiny. He finished filming around 5pm on Saturday, July 25, and left the set. The production team learned of his death from his agent on Sunday before filming began.
In a statement, a SET spokesperson offered condolences, thanked Wang for his contributions, and said they would assist with funeral arrangements.
Career and Co-star
Wang made his TV debut in 2001 on SET's drama Lavender and built a career spanning over two decades.
Last year, Taiwanese actor Jeff Wang joined the cast of Bittersweet Destiny. He plays Li Mingzhe, father of Li Jiajia played by Joyce Yu. Despite a seven-year age difference, Jeff Wang said: "An actor needs to be fully committed. If you feel the emotions of a parent, you'll naturally fit into your role." He added that he has a good relationship with Joyce Yu off-camera, and she helps him get into character.
