Victoria Beckham returned to the World Cup on Monday night to watch the France vs Spain semi-final in Texas, just days after being mocked for her lack of enthusiasm during England's match against Norway. The 52-year-old Spice Girls star was joined by her husband David Beckham, 51, their daughter Harper, 15, and son Cruz, 21, along with girlfriend Jackie Apostel, 30.
Celebrity Presence at the Match
The Beckham family was accompanied by several celebrities, including actor Timothée Chalamet. Harper showed support for Spain by wearing merchandise from the winning team. David Beckham, who played for Real Madrid from 2003 to 2007 and spent five months with Paris Saint-Germain in 2013, has ties to both countries.
Before the match, the Beckhams posed with the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, who performed at their home stadium. Victoria shared a picture on Instagram with the caption: "Did I make the squad?" The cheerleaders responded: "Absolutely!" Timothée Chalamet also met the cheerleaders, saying in a video: "Nice to meet you guys! I'm starstruck!"
Viral Moment and Public Mockery
Victoria's expressionless face during England's victory over Norway went viral on social media. While fans celebrated, she remained seated with a neutral expression. American comedian Jenny Johnson mocked her on Instagram, writing: "I wanted to take a moment to single out @england’s number one fan Victoria, Lady Beckham!!!! There’s nothing like cheering your heart out for England from home, then they cut to Victoria and we see that classic Posh Spice smile!" Johnson added: "I used to think I got animated while watching sports, but Victoria blows my enthusiasm out of the water!"
David Beckham defended his wife with crying laughing emojis, commenting: "She was celebrating inside I promise. Her reactions were slightly slower than mine."
Victoria's Admission About Football
Victoria has been open about her lack of interest in football. In a 2024 interview with the Financial Times, she said: "I never enjoyed watching football. I never felt necessarily wanted [at the matches]. I'm not saying this as in, poor me, but it was never the fun that it is now." She added that she enjoys watching Inter Miami, a team co-owned by her husband: "Now, when we're in Miami, I feel wanted. I'm friends with the families of the players."
In the Netflix documentary Beckham, she confessed: "I’ve never really been into football. I do go to football sometimes, but I don’t know the offside rule or free kicks. Or corner kicks, or whatever they’re called." She also explained her lack of smiling: "I’ve looked miserable for all these years because when we stand on the red carpet, this guy [David] has always gone on the left. Now I didn’t realize that when I smile, which I do, I smile from the left ‘cause if I smile from the right I look unwell. Consequently, I’m smiling on the inside, but no one ever sees it, so that’s why I look so moody."
