Vernon Kay has declared he will not return to dyeing his hair after debuting a grey look on The One Show. The 51-year-old presenter appeared alongside Alex Jones on Wednesday with a shorter, lighter hairstyle, sparking a wave of comments from viewers.
Speaking to BBC Radio 2 colleague Scott Mills, Kay revealed a fellow commuter had alerted him to the buzz. 'There's a lovely lady who I get the train with every morning and she said, 'Have you heard the radio this morning?'' he said. 'She said, 'Oh they're talking about your haircut.''
Mills noted that some had compared Kay's new look to Professor Brian Cox, the physicist and former D:Ream frontman. Kay joked, 'Brian Cox? A great actor but not sure I would go into the hairdresser with a picture of Big Brian.' Mills complimented him, saying, 'You looked magnificent on The One Show last night.'
Kay explained his decision to stop dyeing: 'Someone said stop dying your hair. I haven't done grey blending for many, many years. I'm not going back though because it's just a pain in the bum. I'm just going to leave it, let it do its thing.' He had previously shared the new look on Instagram with the caption 'New lid,' receiving praise from Owain Wyn Evans, Joel Dommett, and Trevor Nelson.
In other news, Kay joked he had been 'banned' from discussing the Super Bowl after British coach Aden Durde's historic win with the Seattle Seahawks. 'I've had my three links talking about American football, and Phil's got the gaffa tape ready,' he said.
