Vernon Kay has been seen sharing his interest in the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing, following Tess Daly's departure as the show's long-running host. The former couple confirmed their split in May, announcing it on their Instagram Stories ahead of what would have been their 23rd wedding anniversary in September.
Their statement read: "After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably. This has not been an easy choice, but it comes from a place of mutual understanding and a shared desire for what is best for both of us." The pair added: "We remain great friends and most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents, which will always be our priority."
Vernon's Response to New Pros
Despite their split, the couple have continued to support each other publicly. Vernon has now shown his continued interest in Strictly, despite Tess stepping down at the end of the 2025 series. Over the weekend, it was announced that Aleksandra Isaeva, Cristian Priori, Lethabo Monametsi, Maddie Ingoldsby and Mark Karmalita will join the BBC One dance show, which returns in September.
The announcement came after former pros Gorka Marquez, Michelle Tsiakkas, Karen Hauer, Nadiya Bychkova and Luba Mushtuk were confirmed to be leaving earlier this year. Strictly's social media channels revealed the new dancers individually, with the caption: "Say hello to Aleksandra, Mark, Lethabo, Cristian, and Maddie, our five new #Strictly professional dancers! Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One and iPlayer this Autumn."
Vernon, a BBC Radio 2 star, responded to the post with a quip: "I thought my back spin and MC Hammer shuffle really broke through. 1984 junior Bolton Conga champion!! Seriously thought I had it in the bag…."
Returning Professionals
The five new dancers join Strictly’s returning professionals Alexis Warr, Aljaz Skorjanec, Amy Dowden, Carlos Gu, Dianne Buswell, Jowita Przystal, Julian Caillon, Kai Widdrington, Katya Jones, Lauren Oakley, Nancy Xu, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin and Vito Coppola.
Sarah James, executive producer at BBC Studios, said: "Aleksandra, Cristian, Lethabo, Maddie and Mark are all outstanding world class dancers and we can’t wait to see them shine under the Strictly glitterball this September."
