Vanessa Kirby has admitted she was taken aback by her eagerness to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, revealing she did not hesitate when offered the role of Sue Storm in 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps'. The actress, known for her role in 'The Crown', told Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast that she was deeply moved by the character's portrayal as a pregnant mother, which grounded her performance.
Kirby did not audition for the part, instead meeting director Matt Shakman over lunch and later Kevin Feige. She felt confident continuing her collaboration with the superhero studio alongside co-stars Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, describing them as becoming like family. "I knew we'd be together, and that helped because then you're not a lone ranger," she said.
Speaking about 'Avengers: Doomsday', which she is currently filming while pregnant, Kirby called it a "complete privilege" and the "coolest" experience. She praised Robert Downey Jr.'s leadership on set, calling him "the most incredible human being" and a phenomenal leader to the newcomers.
Kirby also highlighted the psychological depth of Sue Storm, noting her evolution from Invisible Girl to Invisible Woman and her stillborn child. The actress expressed excitement about bringing the '60s comic book era to life, adding that her character's rich history made committing to future MCU projects easy.
