Vanessa Feltz has admitted that her return to the dating scene is 'not going well' after a series of disastrous encounters. The 62-year-old broadcaster split from singer Ben Ofoedu in 2023 after 16 years together when she discovered he had been unfaithful. Now, she is trying to meet new people but has faced two particularly cringe-worthy dates.
The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant explained that she went on a date with a man she met outside a shop, describing him as 'handsome and polite' but said there was no connection. However, a second date proved even more problematic when she met a 'significantly younger man' on an escalator in a tube station. He took her to a tasting-menu restaurant where he spent hours recounting his 'tragic' life stories.
Speaking on the Suddenly Single podcast, Feltz said: 'He was an artist, he was significantly younger than me... He made a fast move on me... So I did go out with him for dinner one night and he was one of the ones who tells you about his very sad life.' She added that the tasting menu, which she did not realise would have multiple courses, became a marathon. 'I think it might even have been eleven! It just went on and on... and he was so busy into his tragic life story.'
Feltz admitted she was too polite to leave, saying: 'I felt I had to sit through it... I had really lost the will to live. I was holding my head on my hand just to stop myself from falling under the table.' Despite the setbacks, she remains hopeful: 'Surely it's a numbers game and it will end up all right in the end?'
