Professional skater and Dancing on Ice star Vanessa Bauer has announced her engagement to former footballer turned agent James Rowe. The proposal took place on 2 December on the frozen Vermilion Lakes in Banff, Canada, during a six-week work trip for Bauer.
“It was such a dream,” Bauer, 29, told OK! magazine. “I've wanted to skate on the frozen lakes my whole life, so it was just the perfect place to get engaged.” The couple were treated to a vivid orange sunset after driving through a snowstorm, which Bauer described as “a blessing from nature” and felt the presence of her late father, who died in 2021.
Rowe, 34, had planned the proposal for over a year, first deciding to propose during a trip to Lapland. He chose an old mine diamond cushion cut ring set in a gold band, which Bauer said fit perfectly. “I don't know how he knew that's what I would want, but I was so impressed,” she added.
The couple met in September 2024 after Rowe messaged Bauer on Instagram. They now live together in Hertfordshire and plan to marry within approximately 12 months. Rowe, who learned to skate to join Bauer on the ice, said he was “extremely happy” with her yes.
