The personal life of darts superstar Michael van Gerwen has been thrust back into the spotlight, as his ex-wife Daphne Govers is expecting a baby with her new partner just seven months after their split.
New Partner Admits to 'Pulling a Trick' on Darts Legend
In a candid interview with Dutch TV programme Shownieuws, Govers' partner, named Robert, confessed he is not proud of how the relationship began. The couple revealed they had known each other "for a long time" before Govers separated from the three-time world champion in May 2025.
"That's when the spark ignited. It wasn't the intention, but it happened," Robert stated. He emphasised a desire not to cause hurt, saying, "We didn't want to offend anyone, let me be clear about that. We didn't want to hurt anyone, not Michael, not anyone."
Despite this, he openly admitted, "I pulled that trick on him, and I'm not proud of it, but hey, I chose my own happiness." Govers confirmed that Robert had ended his previous relationship before they started dating, and he stressed his 'respect' for Van Gerwen.
A 'Miracle' Pregnancy Amidst Personal Turmoil
Daphne Govers announced she is expecting a 'miracle' baby next month, a pregnancy she described as completely unexpected. "I couldn't have gotten pregnant naturally. If it does happen, it'll be a miracle," she explained, adding that her "world was completely turned upside down."
She acknowledged her own mistake in the situation, stating, "Everyone knows that. We don't have to hide that." When asked about Van Gerwen's reaction to the pregnancy news, Govers replied, "I wouldn't dare say. I don't think very happy, but I really don't know."
The former couple share two children, Mike and Zoe, and Van Gerwen has reportedly encountered Robert due to their co-parenting arrangements.
Van Gerwen's 'Worst Year' During Championship Campaign
This revelation comes as Michael van Gerwen competes at the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace. The 36-year-old recently labelled 2025 as the 'worst year of his life' following the end of his 11-year marriage.
Despite the personal turmoil, the Dutchman has advanced to the tournament's fourth round, where he will face Gary Anderson. After a recent victory, he commented on his performance, saying, "I think overall I put in a decent performance... I think that's exactly what I'm doing."
The interview with Govers and Robert has ensured his personal life remains a public talking point during one of the sport's most high-profile events.
