The British indie music scene is mourning the death of Tyler Harris, drummer of The Ultra Violets, who passed away just weeks after performing with the band at the Isle of Wight Festival. The four-piece group announced the news on Instagram, describing Tyler as 'our heartbeat' and confirming they will be taking time out to process the loss.
In a heartfelt statement, the band wrote: 'This is something we never thought we'd have to write. But our beloved Tyler, a son, a brother, an uncle, a partner, our friend and our heartbeat has tragically passed away.' The surviving members – Perran Nicholls, Marc Willoughby and Adam Knucky – signed off with broken heart emojis.
Tributes have poured in from fellow musicians, including indie rock band The Slates, who wrote: 'So sorry to hear this guys, our thoughts are with you all.' The Mercians added: 'Sending so much love boys.' The band later thanked supporters, saying: 'Tyler wouldn't believe how much love he's got right now.'
Formed in Cornwall, The Ultra Violets released their debut single Romance in April 2021, championed by Amazing Radio and Radio X. Follow-up Watergate Bay was described as a 'crowd pleaser'. The band have shared stages with The Pigeon Detectives and Space, and performed at Boardmasters and Leopallooza festivals.
