Danny Dyer's 'surreal' reaction as Mike from Southampton wins lookalike contest

Danny Dyer had a brutal reaction to the winner of his own lookalike competition, calling the experience 'very trippy' and 'surreal'. The EastEnders actor met the contestants at a Mr Bigstuff event in London on Wednesday, where Mike from Southampton was crowned the best lookalike.

Judges praised Mike's swagger and charm, but some fans felt runner-up Richard, an official Danny Dyer lookalike signed to an agency, resembled the actor more closely and had been 'robbed'. Dyer was particularly impressed with Mike's outfit—a white and maroon Sergio Tacchini jacket similar to one he wore in his 2005 film The Business.

The actor tickled Mike under the chin and quipped, 'You've got the same little double chin there, look!' prompting laughter. Surrounded by contestants, Dyer joked, 'This is like me ageing through the years!' and, as they lined up for a group photo, added, 'Come here, Dans! Look at this f**king boyband here, look!'

Mike admitted he didn't have a huge likeness to Dyer, telling Metro: 'No one's ever told me I look like Danny Dyer, but I've lived a similar sort of childhood — working-class. I'm obviously very good-looking, very charismatic, and a geezer. I didn't expect to win in the slightest.' Turning to Richard, he joked, 'I feel like I've met Danny Dyer today.'

The contest was judged by actors Ryan Sampson and Harriet Webb, who star alongside Dyer in the Sky comedy Mr Bigstuff, and The Standard’s senior social features editor Katrina Mirpuri. The event was part of a growing trend of celebrity doppelgänger contests, following similar events for Timothée Chalamet, Harry Styles, Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal.
