Sweet Magnolias season five has arrived on Netflix, but a fan-favorite character is nowhere to be seen. Viewers have quickly noticed the absence of Ty Townsend, played by Carson Rowland.
Sweet Magnolias Season 5: Where Is Ty Townsend?
Over a year after season four, Sweet Magnolias season five has finally premiered on Netflix. Fans are eagerly catching up on the latest drama in Serenity. Six months have passed, and much has changed: Maddie Townsend (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) now lives in New York, while Annie Sullivan's (Annieliese Judge) relationship status remains uncertain.
When viewers last saw Annie and Ty, they had just started dating officially, but things quickly became complicated. Ty was offered an opportunity to tour Europe with his band. Despite his wish for Annie to join him, she declined.
Is Ty in Season 5?
Sadly for "Tyannie" fans, Ty Townsend does not appear in Sweet Magnolias season 5. He is frequently mentioned by Annie and his mother Maddie, but he never makes a physical appearance as he continues his European tour. From the start, his romance with Annie seems shaky, as Ty has not returned home since leaving Serenity.
Annie is starting a new chapter by heading to college, though it remains unclear whether actress Judge will return for a potential future season. While Rowland is absent from season five, whether this is a permanent departure or a temporary one—should the show be renewed—remains to be seen.
Co-Star Supports Rowland's Departure
Nevertheless, co-star Judge has voiced her support for Rowland's decision to leave the show. Speaking to Us Weekly, she revealed that he "had some other opportunities that I'm really excited for him about." She added: "He's a really, really good friend of mine, and so that's something that's really exciting for him and for all of us. We're all still so supportive of him. [Carson] is so great, and so of course it's sad, but it's also really exciting."
