Donald Trump has been criticised for his behaviour during Lindsey Graham's funeral, with video footage appearing to show the US President offering JD Vance a mint as they sat together. The clip, shared on X, shows Trump opening what looked like a packet of Tic Tacs in an apparent attempt to freshen his breath. The Vice President seemed to find this amusing, sparking widespread criticism on social media.
Social media backlash
One person wrote: "President Trump unsuccessfully attempts to toss a Tic Tac into his mouth." Another commented: "Are they talking while a choir is singing? Disgusting."
A third added: "Trump offers Vance a Tic Tac. Then decides to demonstrate the proper technique by tossing one into his own mouth. Misses. The Tic Tac hits the floor. Vance just watches. This wasn't a funeral. This was two grown men accidentally filming a scene from Dumb and Dumber 3."
Another remarked: "What a pathetic clown. Making a joke with Vance during a funeral." Someone else commented: "Three idiots yucking it up just feet away from the casket. Gross."
One further observer noted: "Talking, laughing and eating candy at a funeral knowing full well you are being filmed is just so tacky. I'd say 'sophomoric', but it's more at elementary school level. What an embarrassment."
Apparent dozing off
Trump also appeared to fall asleep during the funeral as US officials and foreign dignitaries gathered at Washington National Cathedral. Videos from the service showed the US President slowly blinking and closing his eyes, as if he were falling asleep.
This prompted further criticism online, with one person commenting, "He's struggling". Another joked: "Again, trump has more oil coming off his face than there is going through the Strait of Hormuz."
Eulogy for Graham
Trump described Senator Graham as a "tough cookie" who "never saw a war he didn't like" during his eulogy. He remembered the late senator as a "respected statesman, a giant of the United States Senate and a true American original".
