Donald Trump Jr has been ridiculed on social media after sharing an AI-generated image of his father, former US president Donald Trump, in double denim, parodying actor Sydney Sweeney's controversial American Eagle campaign.
The post, uploaded to Instagram on Tuesday night, shows Trump lying on the floor in jeans and a denim shirt, with the caption: “That Hanse…. Um, Donald is so hot right now!!!” – a reference to the Zoolander character Hansel McDonald.
The original American Eagle ad, which features Sweeney wearing the brand's denim alongside the words “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans”, sparked accusations of racism and eugenics from activists, leading to a backlash from conservatives including Senator Ted Cruz and White House Communications Director Steven Cheung.
Trump Jr's post drew thousands of comments, with many users mocking the former president and referencing the Epstein files. One user wrote: “Are you really proudly posting [an] image of your father while he is already an international laughingstock?”
American Eagle CEO Jay Schottenstein is a member of the Mar-a-Lago resort and reportedly has a personal relationship with Trump, according to The Daily Beast.
