Trump and Burnham 'job swap' in SNL UK sketch

Saturday Night Live UK took a swipe at Prime Minister Andy Burnham in a skit that saw US President Donald Trump beg for a "job swap" with the Prime Minister. Trump (James Austin Johnson) was joined by Burnham (George Fouracres) and Volodymyr Zelensky (Freddie Meredith) as the trio traded barbs about each other's countries.

Trump's claims about the UK

The POTUS claimed the UK "has gone to the dogs" and insisted he was the only person capable of fixing it. He said: "I hear you've got problems with the small boats. If I were in charge, no more small boats. Day one, big beautiful boats...the biggest boats you've ever seen coming into Dover."

Trump then turned his attention to Manchester City's problems and the latest incident at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where William Chapman was mauled to death by a tiger. Telling Burnham and Zelensky that the UK has "big tiger problems", Trump added that he likes "all orange predators" before taking aim at his next targets, ranging from Marks & Spencer's Percy Pigs to Britain's comedy scene.

Burnham's response

He said: "And how about British comedy folks? What a bad situation. It's not doing well." Burnham responded by asking the American President whether he had a point. Trump replied: "Not usually no", before begging the Prime Minister to swap roles — mistakenly addressing him as Sir Keir in the process.

He pleaded: "So what do you say Andy are we doing this job swap thing. Please, please don't make me go back there, it's awful back there. Nobody likes me. The midterms are coming up, and I'm about to totally eat s**t."

Zelensky's rejection

After Burnham turned him down, Trump approached Zelensky, hoping the Ukrainian President might agree to swap jobs instead. However, Zelensky was equally unimpressed, telling him, "Trust me, you don't want my job. It's terrible, some of it involves spending time with you."

The skit ended with Trump finally giving up on his requests. Defeated, he said: "Fine, I'll go home. And Zelensky, let me know if you need anything, anything at all, provide it's not help with war." Burnham then apologised to Ukraine's president, adding: "as dire as things may be what matters the most is that we all be nice to this insane man [Trump]."
