A new true crime series based on the American 20/20 news magazine franchise is set to launch on Disney+ on July 30. Titled 20/20 Britain’s Most Notorious Crime Investigations, it will examine six cases that shook the UK.
Jane Andrews Case
One of the cases is that of Jane Andrews, the former dresser and personal assistant to the Duchess of York, who was convicted of murdering businessman Tom Cressman in September 2000. The trailer features experts describing it as a brutal murder that reached the heart of the British Royal Family.
Andrews had a close relationship with the Duchess of York, working as her dresser and personal assistant. After leaving her role in 1997, she sought to marry into wealth and began a relationship with Cressman in 2000. The relationship was rocky, as Cressman reportedly had no intention of marrying her.
In September 2000, after an argument, Andrews hit Cressman with a bat and stabbed him in the chest. She claimed self-defence, but prosecutors argued jealousy and rejection motivated the attack. In 2001, she was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, but was released in August 2019. She now lives a private life and has not commented on portrayals of the events.
Other Cases in the Series
The series will also cover cases including Ben Field, a churchwarden accused of seducing older people into signing over their estates; Joanna Yeates, who went missing in Bristol; Ben Needham, abducted from Kos in the 1990s; Scottish serial killer Peter Tobin; and Mahek Bukhari, a TikTok influencer involved in a fatal car chase.
The first three episodes of 20/20 Britain’s Most Notorious Crime Investigations premiere on July 30 on Disney+, with the remaining three airing weekly.
