Former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau and pop star Katy Perry were seen dining together at Le Violon restaurant in Montreal on Monday evening, according to a restaurant spokesperson. The pair spent about two hours at the fine-dining spot, but staff noted no signs of romantic involvement.
Samantha Jin, a communications consultant for the restaurant, confirmed the meeting and said the pair kept to themselves, with no patrons or staff approaching for photos. “We kind of got the vibe that they were a little more chill,” she said, adding there were “no visual signs of PDA or anything.”
The dinner was first reported by TMZ, which posted video of Trudeau and Perry in animated conversation. Perry, who recently split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom, is on tour with stops in Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, and Toronto. Trudeau announced his resignation earlier this year after nearly a decade in power.
During the meal, security watched from the bar as the pair dined on a chef’s menu featuring starters like tuna, steak tartare, lobster, and asparagus, with lamb as the main course. Chef Danny Smiles stopped by their table, and before leaving, Trudeau and Perry visited the kitchen to thank the team.
Spokespeople for Trudeau and Perry did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Perry, a 13-time Grammy nominee, is one of the best-selling artists of all time, known for her 2010 album Teenage Dream, which tied Michael Jackson’s record for five No. 1 singles.
