An enormous Trojan Horse has appeared in Trafalgar Square, marking the upcoming release of Christopher Nolan's new film The Odyssey.
Installation Details
The 11-metre-tall structure, nestled between the square's bronze lions and fountains and beneath Nelson's Column, has transformed one of London's most iconic landmarks into a striking cinematic spectacle. The attraction is on display following its appearance at The Odyssey world premiere.
Weighing approximately four tonnes, the sculpture was crafted over a six-week period by a team of 45 designers, steelworkers, fabricators and engineers. According to organisers, it took around 300 man hours to construct before being transported to central London and erected overnight.
The horse was created in Cardiff and journeyed over 450 miles to reach the capital. Made from steel, fibreglass, polystyrene, sand and resin, the horse has been designed to mimic the weather-beaten wooden horse featured in Nolan's upcoming mythological action epic, which draws inspiration from Homer's timeless tale.
Historical Context
In the original legend, Greek soldiers conceal themselves within a giant wooden horse to infiltrate the city of Troy - a deceptive tactic that ultimately results in the city's downfall.
Alongside the impressive structure, visitors can peruse film imagery and behind-the-scenes photographs, as well as a corridor of flaming torches inspired by the movie.
Relocation and Exhibition
The installation will relocate to Westfield London in White City, where it will be displayed alongside the photography exhibition from Thursday 16 July until Monday 20 July. The showcase will be free for the public to attend.
Distributed by Universal Pictures, The Odyssey is set to hit UK cinemas on Friday 17 July.

The picture was filmed across numerous global locations utilising cutting-edge IMAX film technology, and is promoted as the first feature film created entirely with IMAX film cameras. It chronicles Odysseus, King of Ithaca, on his epic voyage home following the Trojan War, facing mythical beasts, mighty gods and countless challenges as he strives to reunite with his wife Penelope and reclaim his throne.
Matt Damon portrays Odysseus alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Samantha Morton, John Leguizamo, Zendaya and Charlize Theron.
